Meet the Artisan: GengShi

 

Born in 1946 in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, GengShi grew up immersed in a family steeped in the art of calligraphy. From the paper to the stone, he masterfully blends the fluidity of brushwork with the enduring presence of stone carving, creating works that carry the weight of tradition while exuding a contemporary spirit.

Specializing in calligraphy, seal carving, and stone engraving, his notable work “Han Mo Piao Xiang” (122 × 34 cm) showcases both his mastery of classical script and the subtle charm of stone artistry. As a heritage stone carving practitioner, Wei Peigeng has exhibited widely and earned acclaim, standing as a prominent figure in contemporary Chinese calligraphy and carving.

Dedicated to promoting and preserving folk art, he leads the Mu Jing Studio, with his works featured in collections such as “Han Mo Ji Qu”. Each piece tells a story of ink and stone, inviting viewers to traverse time and experience the enduring elegance of Chinese handcraft traditions.
